Most ask for the same three things: a completed application, proof of disability, and — for some — income details. Grants can often be stacked with VA benefits and financing.
Do you qualify?
Requirements vary by organization — some serve specific disabilities or professions, others are income-based. In general you’ll need to show these three things.
Veteran? Start with the VA automobile allowance — up to $27,074.99 (FY 2026) toward a specially equipped vehicle, paid straight to the dealer. See our VA benefits for Veterans guide.

The “Chariots for Children” program can fully cover a safe, reliable accessible van for a child with disabilities. Open to families and organizations.
Works to improve quality of life for people affected by MS and their families, and raises funds for critical MS research.
The state’s federally funded assistive technology program at UT Austin: free 35-day device loans, demo centers, refurbished equipment, and funding guidance for any Texan.
Texas Workforce Commission program that partners with Texans with disabilities to improve quality of life and enable full participation in society, including work-related transportation needs.
The state-appointed advocate for Texas Veterans — free accredited claims representation and counseling, employment services, education, and assistance.
Texas Health and Human Services contracts with centers for independent living across the state — services, skills training, and equipment that support community living.
The Active Fund awards grants for adaptive sports equipment to people with spinal cord injuries nationwide — handcycles, monoskis, sport wheelchairs, and more.
Make it add up
In many cases grants, VA benefits, and financing can be combined to cover different parts of the purchase. Applying for Social Security disability benefits may also help with day-to-day costs. We’ll help you identify which programs apply and how they fit together.
